LAGRANGE — Carroll won the 10-team Lakeland Invitational Saturday.
Carroll took top honors at 106.2, followed by Elkhart Central at 102.25 and DeKalb at 101.5. Wawasee was fourth at 97.35.
Caitlin Radke of Carroll was the all-around champion at 37.5, with Kiya Hill of DeKalb the runner-up at 35.8. Brittany Akins of the Barons was fifth at 33.65.
The Barons had a strong day on the beam with a team total of 25.95, and Hill and Akins finishing 2-3 at 9.1 and 8.6, respectively.
“The girls did extremely well today,” Baron coach Jenny Gibson said. “We had an incredible day on beam with only one fall. Our bars and vault continue to improve as we are adding more difficulty to them.
We were the first team up on floor which makes it more difficult to score well, but our routines were solid and I am happy with the girls’ efforts.”
Hill was also second in the vault with a 9.4 and the bars with an 8.7. Lauren Rowe was sixth in the bars with an 8.0.
“As we come into the latter part of our season, we are peaking at just the right time,” Gibson said. “We will continue working hard and polishing and trying to give the judges what they want. This team has a lot of heart. They’re a joy to work with and deserve a lot of credit.”
